The Saudi Endodontic Society ( SES) held its 2nd Saudi Endodontic Society international Conference and workshops in collaboration with the King Fahd Military Medical Complex at the Le Meridien Hotel in Al-Khobar, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, from 10th to 14th of March 2012 with the theme,"Towards Defining Golden Standards of Dentistry".
The conference provided a very good platform for the exchange of expertise and experience from speakers all over the world addressing the current challenges in the field of dentistry. The Scientific Program comprises of post-graduate courses, plenary lectures, hands-on workshops and multi-disciplinary sessions. Keynotes international speakers did extensively cover recent advances in Endodontic.
Dr. Gunner Dahlen (Professor and chairman of oral microbiology Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden). Dr. Dahlen covers the methods and antiseptics that should be used to achieve the goal of eradicating all microorganisms from the root canal system. In addition, factors that interfere with the antimicrobial treatment including anatomical factors, the choice of antiseptics/antibiotics and microbial factors all with the aim to reduce the failure rate of root canal therapy were discussed.
Dr. Claes Reit (Professor and chairman of Endodontic department at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden). He gave an excellent presentation about the decision making in Endodontics. His main research interests lie within the fields of clinical procedures, clinical decision making and dental ethics. He focused on the inter- and intraindividual variation in diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning as well as provided theories of decision making in general dental practice.
Dr.Cliff Ruddle (Assistant professor of graduate Endodontics at Loma Linda university and university of California, LA, USA). His topic was: Creating Endodontic Excellence. Evidence-driven techniques which demonstrate each procedural step that comprises start to finish Endodontics was presented. Factors that influence success were addressed. New instrument designs, irrigation fluid dynamics, recent advancements for filling the root canal system and nonsurgical retreatment were discussed. Nonsurgical Endodontic retreatment was extensively discussed too.
